Today’s task was to provide power to the hoist. The temporary construction elevator anchored to the side of a building. This hoist had a 5.5kw motor and required 30A and a 3-phase 208VAC.

This straightforward install started with the installation of an Eaton 3-pole 50A breaker in an existing panel. Luckily, there were spaces available. I then ran about 100’ of 6/4 SOOW baloney cord from the panel to the disconnect location. This cable has conductors colored black, red, white and green. I phased the white blue since the manlift required 3 phases, no neutral needed.

The disconnect I installed was rated at 250VAC and 50A. This fusible disconnect was anchored to a concrete wall right next to the manlift control box.

At first I installed 30A time-delay fuses. These required adapters to properly fit in the disconnect. The contractor installing the manlift told me that 30A wasn’t enough, this manlift he said required 50A. I took his word and figured he knew more about this hoist than I did so I swapped out the 30A for 50A.

That was it, not too exciting but thought I’d share with you guys anyways.
