Today was the first work day of 2024 and I have a small confession, I am not always enthusiastic about going to work. I had eight consecutive days off. I spent the week with my family and it was a fun time for me, I hope they felt the same way too. But now it’s back to the salt mines.
After being away from the job site for eight days I needed to survey the status of the project. The project is a twelve story renovation. Upgrading the electrical in over a hundred residential units, new fire alarm system, new lighting control system and a new security system are only some of the improvements we are making.
During my travels I came across a journeyman who was using a magnetic tek screw pan to hold his 1/2″ #8 self-tappers. These pans increase efficiency and can speed up an install. Some big electrical contractors supply their workers with these pans and I can see why.
I love being an electrician, learning new technologies makes me feel like work isn’t work but electrical contracting is a business and businesses need to make money in order to keep the doors open and the lights on. So whenever I find a way to speed up the install without sacrificing quality I’m all over it.
The next time you are working with metal framing I recommend you check out these magnetic parts pans, your install might be a little smoother.
